Civil rights activists have called for justice for the victims of the Ajiran Community killings in Eti-Osa LGA, Lagos, while rejecting what they described as a sponsored campaign of calumny against the Nigeria Police. The group paid a solidarity visit to AIG Olohundare Jimoh of Zone 2 Command, commending his role as former Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, for pursuing the case after assuming office on February 18, 2025. The victims are Mr. Sheriff Ishola Salami, killed on April 18, 2023, and Prince Kazeem Ademola Akinloye, first son of the Ojomu of Ajiranland, killed on August 26, 2024.
According to the activists, the Lagos Command under CP Jimoh acted on a petition from Olarotimi Williams Chambers and directed an investigation into the murders. The probe led to the arrest of two suspects who allegedly made confessional statements and named Lagos businessman Hammed Tajudeen Akanbi, also known as Ahmed Ajiran, as the alleged sponsor of the killings. Police later declared Akanbi wanted and he was subsequently arrested in Benin Republic. The activists alleged that efforts were made to lobby influential persons and even relatives of the then CP to stall prosecution, but the police insisted on following due process.
The matter is now before the court, and the group said it would be subjudice to make further comments. They, however, maintained that available reports show justice is being pursued and will be achieved. Describing AIG Jimoh as an example of selfless service in the Nigeria Police, the activists urged the public to disregard false narratives being spread on social media by criminal elements, and reaffirmed their support for a thorough investigation and prosecution to ensure justice for Ajiran Community.
