Executive Chairman of Apapa-Iganmu LCDA, Hon. Jimoh Saliu, and four other local government leaders on Sunday spotlighted their one-year achievements and the prospects of local government autonomy during a live edition of _Front Burner_ on Super 92.7FM. Anchored by veteran broadcaster Taiwo Olopade, the one-hour programme featured executives from Apapa-Iganmu LCDA, Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA, Itire-Ikate LCDA, Orile-Agege LCDA, and Mainland Local Government, focusing on grassroots governance and whether councils receive full statutory allocations to deliver democratic dividends.
Hon. Saliu outlined key interventions by his administration in education, healthcare, security and infrastructure, noting that education remains a priority. He said 22 students have been facilitated into higher institutions in Lagos and will also receive scholarships. On healthcare and inclusion, Saliu disclosed that at least 10 visually impaired residents were sponsored for corrective eye surgeries with sight restored, while disability groups in the LCDA have been registered and included in welfare and festive support programmes. The initiative was praised by a resident, Esther, who also commended the “Olugbani Summer Classes” for Primary 4–6 pupils and SS1–3 students during the last long vacation, while urging more support for persons with disabilities.
Other participants included Hon. Dr. Seyi Jakande of Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA; Hon. Akinola Abiodun Idowu of Orile-Age LCDA; Hon. Odunayo Olufemi Daniel of Itire-Ikate LCDA; and Hon. Adewale Momoh, Vice Chairman of Mainland LG, who represented Chairman Hon. Kolawole Jubril Emilagba. The interactive session allowed residents to engage directly with their representatives, with Saliu reaffirming that effective leadership should be measured by tangible improvements in residents’ lives rather than rhetoric, and underscoring the need for accountability, transparency and citizen participation at the grassroots.
