Chief of Army Staff Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu NAM has lauded officers and soldiers for their resilience and sacrifice in the fight against terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, oil theft, and other security threats. Speaking through Corps Commander Ordnance Maj. Gen. Abdullahi Ibrahim at the Eid-El-Kabir luncheon held at the 81 Division Garrison Parade Ground in Lagos on 28 May 2026, he commended troops across operational theatres for their loyalty, courage, and professionalism, noting their role in the Army’s operational gains.
Lt. Gen. Shaibu said the spirit of Eid-El-Kabir, centered on sacrifice, faith, and devotion, reflects the ethos of military service. He paid tribute to fallen personnel and assured their families of continued Army support, while restating his commitment to troop welfare through better living conditions, improved welfare packages, and upgraded infrastructure. He also thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his unwavering support and urged personnel to uphold discipline and professionalism in carrying out their constitutional duties.
GOC 81 Division Maj. Gen. Adebayo Babalola said the event aligns with the COAS’s command philosophy on sound administration and troop welfare, stressing that morale, logistics, and infrastructure have improved under current leadership. Highlights included souvenir presentations, gifts for wounded soldiers and widows, cultural displays by Yoruba, Hausa, and Igbo groups, and group photographs.
