The Delta State Police Command has disrupted a suspected cult initiation ceremony and recovered firearms and other exhibits in Orogun Community, Ughelli North LGA. Acting on credible intelligence in the early hours of Sunday, 19 July 2026, operatives of the Quick Response Squad, QRS, stormed a forest where members of the Black Axe Confraternity, Aye, were said to be holding an initiation. On sighting the police, the suspects opened fire but were repelled by the operatives’ superior tactical response, forcing them to flee into the Abbi–Abraka axis.
Following a search of the area, police recovered one pump-action gun, one cut-to-size double-barrel gun, seven live cartridges, two expended cartridges, seven vehicles, six mobile phones, suspected cult regalia and other personal effects abandoned by the fleeing cultists. All items have been taken into police custody.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, commended the operatives for the operation and reiterated the Command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and the crackdown on cultism and violent crime in the state. He urged residents to continue providing timely information to support security efforts, while noting that manhunt operations are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
