Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested three suspected cultists and recovered a cache of firearms and dangerous weapons during an intelligence-led operation in Imota. The arrests followed credible information from members of the public about cult activities in the area. Those arrested are Jelili Adeyemo, 37, alleged armourer of the group; Bisoye Adewale, 42; and John Okeafo, 60.
Exhibits recovered include one Beretta pistol, one locally made pistol, seven Dane guns, 10 live cartridges, seven expended cartridges, one stun gun, two handcuffs, and four cutlasses. Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects are members of the Aiye Confraternity. Police said the Beretta pistol is allegedly linked to a notorious cultist known as “Mayibone,” who remains at large. The suspects have been arraigned and remanded, while efforts are ongoing to track other fleeing members and recover more weapons.
The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, reaffirmed the Command’s resolve to clamp down on cultism and violent crime across the state. He urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to aid crime-fighting efforts.
