The Lagos State Prominent Indigenes Forum has declared support for Deputy Governor Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat and his running mate, Damilola Sonayon James, ahead of the 2027 elections. Speaking at the Forum’s 2026 Summit on Thursday at Eko Club, Surulere, Convener Chief Adesunbo Onitiri said the meeting brought together indigenes from the five IBILE divisions to move from endorsement to active mobilisation. He urged youths, women, elders and community leaders to drive voter engagement in communities, markets, places of worship and polling units, noting that lasting electoral success is built at the grassroots. Onitiri also described the emergence of a Lagos indigene as President as a historic moment and called on Lagosians to embrace politics as a civic responsibility.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu urged leaders to treat continuity as a governance necessity, not just a political slogan. He said successive administrations must sustain good policies and complete developmental projects for Lagos. “Good governance thrives where institutions are open to constructive engagement and informed debate,” the Governor said, reaffirming his administration’s investments in transport, healthcare, housing, education, environment and the digital economy. He stressed that every generation of Lagosians has a duty to hand over a stronger state to the next.
In his remarks, APC governorship candidate Dr. Hamzat pledged to protect Lagos and deepen consultation with residents, assuring that “we cannot afford to fail, and we will not fail.” Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, SSA to the President on SDGs, called on indigenes home and abroad to mobilise at least 50 people each to collect their PVCs, while former Senator Gbenga Ashafa canvassed door-to-door campaigns across all divisions. The summit concluded with the Forum’s endorsement of APC candidates at both national and state levels, reaffirming its commitment to progressive and continuous leadership in Lagos and Nigeria.
