Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) intercepted consignments of cocaine and opioids concealed in carton walls at a Lagos courier company on Friday, May 15, 2026. The drugs were hidden in shipments headed to the UK and Australia. Officers recovered 170g of cocaine buried in the walls of a carton of clothes bound for Australia, and 200 ampoules of pentazocine, 1,100 tramadol capsules, and 100 ampoules of promethazine hidden in another carton destined for the UK.
In Delta State, NDLEA operatives supported by soldiers raided cannabis farms in Ejeonu and Orogun villages between May 10 and 12, destroying 65,000kg of skunk across 26 hectares and recovering 78.3kg of the substance. Two suspects, Ifeanyichukwu Peter, 52, and Godwin Vincent Osadera, 30, were arrested during follow-up operations. In Kaduna, officers seized 1,989 rounds of military-grade ammunition concealed in garri along the Abuja-Kaduna highway and arrested 35-year-old Abdullahi Hassan on May 12. Another raid in Zaria yielded 361kg of skunk and the arrest of 42-year-old Husaini Suleiman.
The agency also arrested a 29-year-old Abuja businessman, Ogadi Peter, for producing drug-laced cakes and cookies for parties, recovering 800g of skunk and 2.7kg of tainted cookies. Additional operations in Ogun, Taraba, Oyo, Edo, and Kano led to further arrests and seizures, including 181kg of skunk in Ogere and over 105,000 opioid pills in Taraba. NDLEA Chairman Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd) commended officers for the arrests and seizures, noting the agency’s continued balance between drug supply reduction and public sensitization efforts nationwide.
