A kidnap plot targeting a Chinese national along the Ijebu-Ode/Odogbolu Expressway was foiled by Obalende Division operatives of the Ogun State Police Command on 9 June 2026. Acting on credible intelligence received at 5:30 p.m., the Divisional Police Officer mobilized the Surveillance Team and intercepted Chinedu Onwuemena, 41, and Jimoh Ojo, 37, before the crime was carried out. The suspects were allegedly planning to abduct the victim and demand ₦50,000,000 ransom.
Investigations showed Onwuemena, who worked as an interpreter and driver in the company, exploited his access to coordinate the plot. Police say the duo did not act alone and are pursuing another accomplice who fled. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, for detailed and discreet investigation into the wider criminal network.
CP Bode Ojajuni praised the vigilance and swift action of the Obalende Division team, saying the operation highlights the impact of timely intelligence and community cooperation in crime prevention. He reassured residents and businesses that Ogun Police Command remains committed to intelligence-led policing and will continue pursuing criminal elements threatening public safety.
