The Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices, POCACOV, has expanded its community policing drive to transport unions and market associations in Lagos ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The sensitization programme was held on Monday at the Apapa-Iganmu LCDA Secretariat Hall in Badia, with members of NURTW, RTEAN, market leaders, youth groups, and police officers in attendance. Themed “Say No to Drug Abuse, Cultism and Election Violence,” the event marked a shift from previous school-based outreaches to grassroots stakeholders who interact daily with commuters and traders.
Speaking at the event, Apapa-Iganmu LCDA Chairman, Hon. Jimoh Olawale Saliu, said the council was deepening its partnership with POCACOV to curb crime in motor parks and markets. He urged operators and traders to reject drug abuse and cult activities, and warned against election violence.
Representing the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Area B Commander, ACP Onyinyechi Onwuamaegbu, said transport hubs must not be used for cult recruitment, drug trafficking or political thuggery. She called on residents to provide credible information to police, avoid jungle justice, and cautioned youths against being used to foment violence during elections.
Lagos POCACOV Coordinator, SP Olivia Ugochukwu, said the initiative, driven by the Inspector-General of Police, focuses on preventive policing through public education and mentorship. She disclosed that similar campaigns will be held in other LGAs, with continuous engagement to promote peace and responsible citizenship as political activities intensify.
