The Nigeria Police Force has reaffirmed the position of Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 2 Lagos, AIG Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, that the criminal case on the Ajiran murders remains before a court of competent jurisdiction and must be allowed to run its full judicial course without media trial or public pressure. In a statement on Tuesday by Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, the Police said the matter was investigated and is now in court following advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions.
The Force noted that because the case is sub judice, adjudication rests solely with the judiciary and it will not be tried in the media. AIG Jimoh, who broke his silence last week, said he would not join issues on social media and urged anyone with evidence of misconduct to present it in court. Separately, the AIG in charge of FCID has invited AIG Jimoh for questioning in line with internal accountability procedures, while FCID Abuja on 30 July also issued a letter of invitation to Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, to appear and substantiate his public claims.
The Police said discipline is governed by the Constitution, Police Act 2020, Police Regulations and Force Orders, and applies to all ranks. While upholding citizens’ right to freedom of expression and accountability, the Force warned that the right does not cover defamation or unsubstantiated allegations aimed at forcing outcomes outside due process. It urged Otse to honour the FCID invitation and allow both the administrative review and the court process to proceed, adding that any officer found culpable will be sanctioned, while false allegations intended to damage reputations will attract legal action.
