Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to preserving religious harmony in the state, assuring residents that every faith community will be free to worship, coexist peacefully and contribute to the development of Lagos. Represented by Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, at the Golden Jubilee International Annual Convention of The Apostolic Church Nigeria, LAWNA Territory in Olorunda-Ketu on Wednesday, the Governor congratulated the Church on its 50th anniversary and commended its role in spiritual development, community building and nation-building.
The Governor said faith-based organisations remain indispensable partners in building a prosperous, inclusive and resilient Lagos. “While government provides infrastructure and public services, institutions such as The Apostolic Church help build character, strengthen families, promote peace, encourage responsible citizenship, and nurture the moral values upon which every prosperous society depends,” he stated. As part of people-centred development and public safety, Sanwo-Olu restated plans to construct a pedestrian overhead bridge to serve the Church’s Convention Ground at Olorunda-Ketu, noting that investments in infrastructure are investments in human lives and community wellbeing. He urged members of the Church to remain steadfast in evangelism, youth mentorship and service, stressing that the times require institutions that inspire hope and promote unity.
In goodwill messages, Chairman of CAN Lagos, Bishop Stephen Adegbite, applauded the state government’s support for faith groups and described the proposed bridge as a boost to safety and accessibility for worshippers and residents. He also commended Dr. Hamzat’s leadership and pledged CAN’s collaboration with the government. LAWNA Territorial Chairman, Pastor Moses Oluwole Ogunibe, said the Church complements government efforts through youth empowerment, skills training, leadership development and humanitarian service, and pledged continued partnership to promote peace, moral values and community transformation in Lagos.
