The Senate Committee on Drugs and Narcotics has assured the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, of its full support in the ongoing fight against substance abuse and illicit drug trafficking. The assurance came on Monday, 15 June 2026 when the newly appointed Chairman of the committee, Senator Joseph Igiagbe Ikpea, paid a courtesy visit to NDLEA Chairman/Chief Executive, Brig Gen Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd) at the Agency’s national headquarters in Abuja.
Senator Ikpea, who represents Edo Central Senatorial District, said he was at NDLEA to learn and partner with the Agency. He praised Marwa’s track record as Military Governor of old Borno State, Military Administrator of Lagos State and current head of NDLEA. The senator said the committee is ready to work with NDLEA through legislative support and necessary laws to get drug-dependent youths into rehabilitation and prevent others from falling into the trap through massive awareness and sensitization programs.
In his response, Marwa thanked the senator for the visit and congratulated him on his appointment, saying it reflected his reputation as an upright person. He noted that drug abuse remains a major challenge fueling other social problems, but NDLEA is recording impressive results through dismantling of transnational cartels, arrest of high-profile barons and seizure of assets. The NDLEA boss attributed the gains to the support of President Bola Tinubu, the National Assembly and the Judiciary, and pledged the Agency’s continued commitment to drug supply and demand reduction efforts across the country.
