LAGOS — Nigeria and Thailand have signed a Record of Discussions to expand cooperation in agricultural education, aquaculture, youth development and enterprise creation. The agreement, involving the Thailand International Cooperation Agency, TICA, Kasetsart University, KU, and the Federal Cooperative College, Oji River, FCCO, was formalized at a ceremony attended by senior officials from both countries.
A key component is the establishment of a standard fish farm at FCCO, fully funded by the Government of Thailand. The facility is expected to give students hands-on training in modern aquaculture while serving as a hub for knowledge transfer and skills development. The partnership will also include student exchange programmes and broader academic and technical collaboration between FCCO and KU, one of Thailand’s leading agricultural universities.
Speaking at the event, Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, Sen. Dr. Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, described the initiative as a link between youth, innovation and business. A panel dialogue on “Building Sustainable Partnerships: Connecting Youth, Innovation and Business” stressed the need to move beyond agreements to create practical pathways for young people in agriculture. Officials said the project reflects Thailand’s wider development cooperation with Nigeria and comes at a time Nigeria is seeking to make agriculture more attractive to a new generation through technology, entrepreneurship and international exposure.
