Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have recorded another major breakthrough with the surrender of two senior ISWAP commanders on 8 June 2026. The terrorists, identified as Ismail Mohammed and Abu Umar, are in military custody undergoing profiling and debriefing. Preliminary assessments show both held strategic roles in the Lake Chad region, specifically around the Mangari axis. Mohammed was a close associate of senior ISWAP leader Baa Shuwa and had deep knowledge of the group’s command structure. Abu Umar was known as an explosives specialist responsible for fabricating and maintaining vehicle-borne IEDs and other combat equipment. Interrogation also revealed that Mohammed Khalifa, a member of the ISWAP Shurah Council, was neutralized during joint operations by OPHK.
The surrender marks a significant setback for ISWAP given the commanders’ years of experience, influence, and technical expertise within the insurgent network. Their decision to flee and give up underscores the impact of sustained offensive operations by Operation HADIN KAI, backed by precision strikes with Allied Partners against terrorist enclaves across the theatre. The combined pressure is degrading terrorist capabilities, weakening operational networks, and forcing more insurgents to abandon the fight.
