The Executive Chairman of Apapa-Iganmu Local Council Development Area, Hon. Jimoh Olawale Saliu, has marked his first year in office with a renewed pledge to tackle drug abuse, cultism and election-related violence in the council. Speaking during a POCACOV sensitization programme at the LCDA Secretariat in Badia, Jimoh thanked residents, political leaders and the council management for their support over the past 365 days, and reaffirmed his administration’s zero-tolerance stance on social vices.
Representing the Lagos Commissioner of Police, Area B Commander ACP Oyinye Onwuamegbu urged community leaders to extend the anti-drug and anti-cultism campaign to motor parks, markets, CDAs, mosques, churches and homes, stressing that effective policing depends on active community participation. DPOs from Badia, Amukoko and Layeni Divisions also called on stakeholders to report criminal activities promptly and avoid shielding offenders regardless of status. Lagos POCACOV Coordinator, SP Olivia Ugochukwu, led participants in a pledge to reject drug abuse, cultism and election violence while promoting peace and respect for the law.
Jimoh said the council will sustain collaboration with the Nigeria Police and other partners to secure a safer environment for youths and businesses. “We want a community free from drugs, cultism and election violence to secure a brighter future for our youths and accelerate the development of Apapa-Iganmu LCDA,” he stated. The event, themed “Say No to Drug Abuse, Cultism and Election Violence,” drew the Vice Chairman, Hon. Chief Mrs. Fadekemi Otitonaiye, former Rep member Hon. Adewale Babatunde Jimoh, legislators, council officials, market leaders, transport unions, youth groups and other stakeholders who received certificates of participation.
