The National Industrial Court of Nigeria (NICN) has adjourned till Friday 16 September hearing on the suit filed by the Federal Government challenging the ongoing strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
The judge, Polycarp Hamman on Monday hearing on the suit till the said date for further mention.
At the proceedings, the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP), sought to join the suit as an interested party.
SERAP’s lawyer, Ebun-Olu Adegoruwa, said his client had filed a similar suit asking the court to compel the federal government to honour its 2009 agreement with the striking varsity lecturers.
In his ruling on the SERAP’s joinder application, the Justice Hamman noted that the suit was not ripe for consolidation, and as such the application by SERAP was declined.​
The judge further said he was only presiding as a vacation judge, noting the case would be assigned to another judge for adjudication.​
The counsels of parties in the suit later addressed a section of the media.
