Education District VI of the Lagos State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, in partnership with POCACOV Lagos, NDLEA Zone 8, and NSCDC Oshodi Division, held a District-Wide Parents’ Sensitization Forum on Thursday, 11 June 2026. Themed “Instilling Values, Preventing Vices: The Parents’ Role in Raising Responsible Children,” the forum gathered parents, educators, school leaders, and security stakeholders to tackle cultism, drug abuse, cybercrime, and other youth vices. Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary Mrs. Mojisola Christiana Yusuff said the family is the foundation for building responsible citizens and called for sustained parent engagement to secure a safe, moral society.
Speakers agreed that deliberate parenting is critical as Nigeria’s youth population expands. POCACOV Lagos Coordinator SP Olivia Ugochukwu noted that young people form a large part of the nation’s demographics, so parents must guide them with values and discipline. Lagos Police Gender Unit’s CSP Omolola Odutola, representing ACP Oluwatoyin Kazeem, reminded parents that children imitate what they see at home more than what they’re told. NDLEA’s Commander Agoma Arinola Abosede focused on drug abuse prevention, highlighting warning signs, peer pressure, and parental monitoring. NSCDC’s Superintendent Inegbese Eromosele addressed school safety and emergency preparedness, stressing infrastructure protection and community collaboration.
NUT Lagos Chairman Comrade Akintoye Hassan used Yoruba proverbs to stress that moral training must go with academic success, while ANCOPSS South-West President Comrade Olusola Masheyi praised Mrs. Yusuff’s leadership on school security and pledged principals’ support for safe schools. The forum reinforced that protecting children against vices is a shared duty of families, schools, communities, and government agencies. Organizers pledged to continue sensitization drives and partnerships to empower parents, strengthen family values, and create environments where youths can thrive.
