ABEOKUTA — The Ogun State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in its fight against kidnapping with the rescue of a truck driver, the killing of two suspected kidnappers, and the recovery of arms and cash in Papalanto–Ilaro. The victim, a professional driver, was abducted on August 25, 2026, at about 11:10 p.m. in Ajibawo, Ibese.
Acting on credible intelligence, operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit tracked the gang to their hideout along Papalanto–Ilaro Road. Two suspects were neutralised during the raid while others fled with gunshot wounds. A search of the hideout led to the recovery of two AK-47 rifles, 25 rounds of 5.6mm ammunition, two mobile phones, and ₦2,000,000 suspected to be ransom proceeds. The bodies of the slain suspects have been deposited in the morgue for autopsy as police intensify the manhunt for fleeing members.
The State Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni praised the squad’s gallantry and professionalism, noting that the operation reflects the Command’s intelligence-driven approach to crime. He reaffirmed that Ogun State will remain unsafe for criminal elements and called on residents to support ongoing efforts by reporting suspicious persons, especially those seeking treatment for gunshot injuries.
