THEWILL – THE 3rd of January, Alhaji Bashir Othman Tofa, a former presidential candidate for the defunct National Republican Convention (NRC), has died.
Tofa died in the early hours of Monday at the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH) after a brief illness, according to family sources.
Tofa, who was born on June 20, 1947, died 29 years after contesting and losing the presidential election on June 12, 1993, to the late Chief Mashood Abiola, which was widely regarded as one of the most free elections in the country, but was annulled by the military junta of General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida.
Tofa is expected to be buried today in Kano, Nigeria, according to Islamic rites.
